Bush Installation Workshops
What is installation? Installation has become a recognised art form that uses objects or materials of any kind to draw people's attention to something they might not ordinarily notice, or to encourage them to look at something in a different way, to provoke thought about an issue, an emotion or simply just to 'experience'. Environmental installation uses natural objects and fibres, usually collected from the site, to create patterns, designs and structures that provoke thought and differnet ways of seeing. It can be gone the next day, or remain in harmony with its surroundings for many years.
The session begins with a walk through the unique surroundings of the Far South Wilderness Company, discussing the many ways of using naturally sourced materials; medicinal, edible and practical. How to recognise poisonous plants, which is good for string? Teaching the students to utilise and enjoy the environment with 'minimum impact'.
The students then work in groups to create unique artforms in a way that enables all students to participate in art without expected outcomes, and to enjoy the process while learning something new.
